ACCORDION PROJECT, “CHANSONS ET MUSETTE”
Paris has emerged from the European music scene uniquely
and unforgettably. Since 1920, popular music and Afro-American music
have coexisted in Paris. This intermingling has influenced not only
the development of its own genre, but it has also left its mark on the
development of jazz, on the French chanson and of course on the musette.
Accordion Project's CD is dedicated to this musical world and the impressions
it creates, and thanks to the birth of the “New Musette”,
this is currently very popular. The compositions of the various members
of the group reflect the elegance and finesse of the French melodies
and combine them with the intensity and rhythm of the traditional Afro-American
music. Apart from the new compositions, the CD offers a short overview
of the most popular numbers of the French chanson (Charles Trenet, Edith
Piaf, Gilbert Bécaud, Michel Fugain), in which the jazz background
can be clearly recognised.
At the centre of the work is an instrument which can best reflect this
musical contamination – the accordion. The accordion has developed
from an instrument for traditional music into a versatile instrument
which can compliment many musical styles.
