From tango to Jazz
From
tango to jazz is a musical journey from one style to another which seem
to be quite different. Each member of the ensemble contributes in his
very personal way to this project, incorporating his own musical experiences
from jazz to classical music, from tango viejo to popular song writers.
The compositions of the individual members of the group are just as
varied as their experiences: Danilo Boggini experiments with a tango
within a jazz framework, in which improvisation plays a central part
, while Alberto Guareschi favours minimal musical sketches and Marcello
Alemanno uses the high, clear tones typical of contemporary music. Apart
from the new compositions which form the main part of the CD, the Astrea
Ensemble pays homage to Piazzolla with two numbers – Chiquilin
de Bachin and Vuelvo al Sur, and there are also arrangements of two
pop-jazz tunes from a tango perspective - I remember Clifford by B.Golson
and Recordame by J.Henderson.
